Gifts that crafters actually USE

Your cost is the same (or sometimes less!), but your purchase helps support the Glitter and Bonbons website, which means I can bring more crafty goodness to you, my lovely reader. So, thank you! It’s a fact of life that crafters and makers never have all of the tools and supplies they need: NEVER. Why is that? Because even the most prolific creator runs out of craft equipment sooner or later.

  • Tools wear out
  • New gadgets come on the market
  • Better quality devices are invented
  • (New glitter colors are produced! *ahem*)

When you think about it, crafters and creators could actually be the easiest people to shop for!

This extensive list should help you find just what you’re looking for. These are some of the best gifts a crafter could want. (And maybe you’ll find a little somethin’ somethin’ for yourself. Shoppers deserve a treat, too.)

No time to read it now? Pin it for later!

Stocking stuffers for crafters

Crafters always need a variety of adhesives. Glue dots come in several sizes (these are the ones I use constantly), and glue sticks are a perennial favorite. For attaching paper items, nothing beats the Tombow tape runner (also called “snail” adhesive) for quick and easy straight-line glue placement. (Don’t forget the refills!)

This clear-drying liquid glue allows placement flexibility and comes with a needle-nose metal tip for pinpoint accuracy (essential when working with tiny embellishments). The Zig Memory 2-Way Squeeze and Roll Glue Pen delivers glue that’s permanent when used wet, and tacky when allowed to dry before adhering. (Think of it as sticky note glue in a pen.)

For adding no-fuss, no mess sparkle to crafts, Stickles Glitter Glue stands above the crowd of glitter glues. This brand packs the most glitter in the least amount of glue. Its no-fuss flow-tip applicator puts the glimmer right where you need it, and the sparkle is off the charts when it dries. Mercury is my fave color, but it’s sold in a rainbow of colors both individually and in color kits.

Small tools are great stocking stuffers

Accidents happen, and erasers are necessary. But what kind? This Xyron Adhesive Eraser magically removes glue residue and tape adhesive from paper without tearing the paper or leaving a stain. For removing colored pencil and ink marks, the Tombow MONO Sand Eraser is the answer. And for pencil marks, this Premium Quality White Vinyl Eraser by Staedtler provides excellent removal with the least “crumbling.”

Don’t let the name fool you – the Rhinestone Picker Dotting Pen’s wax tip is indispensable for picking up the tiniest papers and embellishments. It’s as valuable to crafters as it is to nail artists. And the rhinestones that come with it are an added bonus.

Heat embossing is a great way to add texture and interest to paper crafts. Versamark embossing ink is the industry standard. (It comes in a sparkly version too, for a couple of bucks more.) And Wendy Vecchi Embossing Powder, which comes in a wide array of colors, is a super-fine powder, perfect for detailed embossing. Don’t forget this embossing powder bag – it’s indispensable for keeping embossing powder granules from straying out of bounds.

Distress ink pads provide the ever-popular vintage look to paper projects. Available in a wide variety of acid-free colors, this is the go-to ink for grunge, worn, farmhouse and vintage looks on projects. And it’s perfect for inking the edges of paper to give it that weathered, old-world look. My personal favorite is Vintage Photo, but Tea Dye works beautifully, as do the rest.

Blend those distress inks with these ergonomically designed ink blending brushes, great for all water-based inks. In 5 sizes, these brushes will meet all of your blending needs. Or if your crafter (or you) prefers foam, this round ink blending tool with replaceable domed foam head is the ticket. No need to wash with each color change, the tool includes 12 removable foam heads for crafting ease.

For other types of color artistry, this set of 20 paint brushes will handle all of a crafter’s smaller paint needs. Suitable for oil, watercolor and acrylic paints, these are the brushes that mixed media and papercrafters turn to time after time. And this set of 20 foam sponge brushes, from 1-inch wide to 4-inches wide, are great for larger projects.

For sparkly glamour, nothing takes the place of glittery, sparkly, eyeball-grabbing glitter. And this 32-jar collection of Teenitor Fine Glitter does more than just glam up papercrafts. It’s soft enough to be used in nail art, slime projects and for eyeshadow, which means it’s safe for skin, hair and nails. 32 jars for less than $15 is a STEAL!

Here’s another set of Blending brushes (set of 10), this time in more unusual sizes (there’s a really tiny one in here, perfect for bitty text blocks).

For the crafter who makes her own gift tags, the We R Memory Keepers Tag Punch Board will delight her with all the different-sized tags it can make. For weddings, holidays, baby showers and more, beautiful designer tags can be hers with just a few strokes and some favorite card stock or patterned paper.

And for creating custom embellishments, nothing beats shrink plastic. It’s not just for kids – adults love it too! This value-packed shrink plastic kit includes 20 pieces of shrink plastic paper plus 125 pieces of assorted accessories for making keychains, earrings and more. (I use shrink plastic to make holiday bracelets.)

Craft mats are the surface on which most crafts are created. From wipe-clean to self-healing, you’re sure to find the perfect craft mat for the crafter in your life. (Or YOU, if you’re looking for a change.)

A multi-purpose scoring board is a must-have for crafters. The 5-star Bira Craft 12×12-inch model features measurements in 1/8″ increments. With the special tool included, the crafter can also make larger envelopes as well as decorative gift boxes. This scoring board does it all.

And for the crafter who loves to paint in watercolors…

Paper crafters need to cut paper, and scissors are slow and inaccurate. A paper trimmer is the answer, and this Fiskars SureCut Deluxe Paper Trimmer is the bees knees. It has the widest base on the market, and a swing-out arm which extends to 15″ to cut extra-large materials. It even has a scoring tool (sold separately) to let paper crafters cut and score their papers without fiddling and fussing. (Don’t forget refill blades!)

Creamy and rich, with an almost lipstick quality, Gelatos Multipurpose Art Medium are tubes of color which lend themselves to various artistic methods. They can be used to watercolor, stamp, stencil and layer, and they blend easily, with or without water. Their creative possibilities are endless.

For the crafter who spends long hours bent over a craft table, this Trigger Point Massage Tool will relieve those tight muscles and can be used while watching tv after a long day of crafting.

Copics are the ultimate alcohol markers, and this Copic Air Brush System Kit is the easy way to turn them into airbrush inks. No need for separate expensive inks, this easy system uses Copics pens to lend beautiful airbrush effects to craft projects.

Under $100

Crafters use a wide variety of coloring agents, and Neocolor Pastels are artist-grade water-soluble crayons which provide a world of wet or dry coloring possibilities. Their creamy colors are so vibrant, they can even be used on dark (even black) surfaces.

For precise, pinpoint accuracy, the Misti Stamp Positioner is the only tool that delivers. Never have to guess again when restamping an incomplete stamp – the Misti guarantees instant accuracy. It’s the most incredible stamp tool invented and has a 5-star rating to prove it!
